In an Android and iOS influenced market, the Canadian tech giant, BlackBerry has decided to challenge itself by setting the target of selling 5 million phones a year or stop making any more handsets.

The make it or break it deal was revealed by John Chen, CEO BlackBerry in his interview given to the ‘The Verge’.  Chen disclosed that his goal is to sell five million Smartphones a year, which will be necessary to make the business profitable. If they will fail to do so, the company might stop making anymore handsets in the future.

The weight of this momentous decision lies on the release of the 5.4inches BlackBerry Priv.  The new handset by the company is basically an Android powered device, which according to Chen will be launched by the end of this year. ‘Priv’ will be an exclusive smartphone which will run Android instead of BlackBerry’s own BB10 software. According to CEO, the device will offer improved technology, a physical keyboard, better antenna technology and some other high-powered specs which will make the device standout among its competitors.

Getting the customers to swap to Priv will certainly be a crucial task as well as a huge risk for the company. Blackberry has seen the best of its days and today most of the customers probably don’t even think of getting a Blackberry device. To tackle this situation, Chen claims that he is dealing with the carriers directly so as to sell the latest Priv. His aim is to guarantee the huge number of Android users a seamless android experience of Blackberry Priv .

The Canadian tech giant was formerly a leader in manufacturing mobile phone devices but lost its market due to resilient competition offered by Apple and Google. Chen strongly believes that the company would be able to revive soon and their new upcoming device will break away from the norms pulling the strings with BlackBerry apps along with an Android.
