There is nothing more pleasing for a techie to see two heavyweight phones battling for top spot these days. It happens a lot these days. We often find mobile phones battling it out. The contenders for today are: LG G3 and Sony Xperia Z2.
Both Sony and LG are reputed brands, placed amongst top 5 Android phones they cannot afford to be complacent or relaxed – they have to surge forward and capture the market. Both LG G3 and Sony Xperia Z2 will battle it down to the end. Both were slow starters but have gained the ground quickly. Although G3 and Z2 weren’t announced close-by, there is a gap of months between them but the similarity in tech and specs makes them inevitable rivals.
LG G3 vs. Sony Xperia Z2
Although G2 was a decent flagship but LG decided to extensively upgrade their product and release the cherish-able G3. The upgrades include QHD screen, microSD card slot, removable battery and camera upgrading such as laser auto focus, true tone flash or modified imaging.
In comparison Sony did not make any huge advancement. They did upgrade their flagship but not with the same intensity, perhaps they didn’t need too. They had solid platform to build on. The additional features that were added include 20MP camera, dual glass finish, water resistant design, Omni balance, stereo speakers, 3GB of internal memory and an improved battery.
In simpler words, LG had to make some leaps to produce the “perfect” Android phone in the form of G3, while Sony already had some serious quality going into the production of Z2. They didn’t have to make massive upgrades like Sony.
Now let’s look at the pros and cons of each handset by comparing them to each other.
LG G3 over Xperia Z2

- Xperia’s RAM is crucially bigger 3GB vs. 2GB
- Video recording is better in Z2 (1080p@60fps and 720p@120fps)
- It has HD stereo speakers
- Z2’s battery is bigger (3,200mAh vs. 3,000mAh)
- Z2 offers ANT+ support
- You get free add-ons like noise cancelling headphones in some packages.
The dilemma
What we just analyzed is not something you can ignore. Both the flagships have serious quality. Both Sony Xperia Z2 and LG G3 have their own remarkable specialties. G3 offers QHD screen, laser auto focus, these are features you don’t see every day on a phone that is reasonably priced as well.
Z2 similarly has its own virtues that cannot be ignored. In this age of social media and photo-craze, Z2 offers outstanding camera quality, remarkable pixels and photo effects. The battery is outstanding and so is audio.
So how do we choose?
It all comes down to what you like not what the specs are. With phones as well balanced as these two, you should always go with the instinct. Chose the phone whose design you like, the one you would be more comfortable in handling.
