After endless rumours, countless leaks and much fanfare, Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge over the weekend, with the eagerly awaited new flagship smartphones shaping up as one of the greatest innovations in smartphone technology. Setting as the major boost to this year’s tech calendar, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge release date is April 10, 2015 as confirmed in Barcelona during MWC launch event. That means there are only a few weeks left to get these smartphone monsters.

Market Competition

The announcement was made just a few hours after the flagship of HTC One M9, which is set to be released on March 31, 2015. While April release could see the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge land within weeks, Samsung has little to worry from mid-market marketing. What might trouble Samsung is the launch of Apple Watch, expected to take part in early April. If Apple watch lands in the same week as the S6, the publicity heaped on its first wearable could distract the instructions of these Smartphones. It will soon come into the public domain as Apple is set to launch, Apple Watch on March 9, 2015.

Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Specifications

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge both features 5.1 inch QHD display, an octa-core processor with 3GB RAM, a 5MP front-facing camera, 16MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation, a 2,550 mAh on Galaxy S6 and 2,600 mAh on the Galaxy S6 Edge, Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11ac and a support for wireless-charging. The only difference is the Edge’s panel, which uses a display that curves on both the right-hand and the left-hand side. The curvature of the display enables Galaxy S6 Edge to deliver colourful notification even if it is placed facing down on the table.

The smartphones will be available globally on every major carrier starting April 10, 2015. You gain access to several purchasing options: White Pearl, Gold Platinum, Black Sapphire, Green Emerald and Blue Topaz, once the handset lands. These handsets will also present storage options of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.

Pricing of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge

The company has already announced that it will have a different pricing policy for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, with the Edge likely to be more expensive. The T-Mobile and the mobile carrier have apparently let the United States price slip. According to the terms and conditions of the mobile carrier, the Galaxy S6 is valued at $699. The same price was revealed during T-Mobile’s contest in which a lucky winner will receive the smartphone on the day that it launches.

According to the computerworld sources, the Galaxy S6 is speculated to retail at €699 on its release date, meaning it will retail €100 in Europe and $100 more in the United States markets. The standard version of the Galaxy S6 Edge is also rumoured to trade under €1000 in Europe and under $1000 in the U.S. There is no information regarding their pricing in the UK at this time, since Britain does not use the EURO, meaning the price will be different.

Availability of These Stellar Smartphones

Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will be launched in 20 countries after April 10th release. However, some of the countries in which the smartphones will launch remain inevitable, and it is possible to make an educated guess regarding others, since Samsung has kept the identity of these countries to itself. Ensuring Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are readily available from day one of release, several UK retailers and networks have confirmed plans to stock the devices.
