Android games: Andy Candy review

Andy Candy is an exciting Android game from famous developers More Games. Since Candy Crush, one feels that candy themed games are gaining popularity. So various app developers have taken this opportunity to create wonderfully designed creative games and Andy Candy is one of them. Have you ever played that children’s game where you have a trace over the lines of a figure in one go but you are not allowed to stop or write over? – Like a continuous maze. Andy Candy’s gaming principals are that that. The graphics are high-end and presentation is top-notch. But it’s simplicity is what makes it attractive.

Andy Candy

Concept of Andy Candy

The game is based around the concept that the lead character is going eat all the candy and you will direct him. Each level provides you with zigzag lines of candies which you have to make Andy eat. You must not double-up on the candies, you have to follow continuous path without crossing over it again. With levels, the candy path becomes difficult and challenging.

Design, graphics and layout

The lead character Andy is a tiny round green-colored alien with feelers. He makes munching sounds as he eats candy, in a pac-man like way. He has an electronic voice that instructs you at some places and congratulates you when you cross a level. The lead character is indeed very well designed.
Overall graphics are flashy and cartoonish. Graphics of Andy Candy have to be held in high regards.

Gameplay and other features

At the start of each level, you are given a shape of the candy along with the barricades and pitfalls and you have to guide Andy through all that safely. With levels increasing, the challenges also become difficult. The game is easy at startup and just when you think you have conquered the gameplay, it starts becoming enjoyably difficult.

The first level is a straight triangle and you can do it with one eye closed. In fact first few levels are very easy but the end levels are in fact so difficult that they require serious will to not give up the game. It becomes frustrating as well – but then again that’s the beauty of a video game, if it’s too easy why anyone would play it.

There are plot twists too. After completing a few levels you start getting “chocolate” lines which you have to cross twice to get rid of. So any strategy conjured up in early levels goes out the window. Another twist is when you start bumping into tele-porters. They take you from one node (obstacle) to another and often leave you in a place you cannot finish and have to restart.

In order to motivate you for time, there is a time-based award called “star rating” in Andy Candy. The game gives you star rating based on how quickly you completed a level. There is also the option of retrying completed levels so you can earn more stars.

Conclusion

Andy Candy is a beautiful free game. If you are a puzzle-lover or have similar interests you will find Andy Candy worth playing. It is not all easy; the end levels are very challenging and exciting. The ads may seem slightly annoying but to be fair to developers, it is to be expected on a free app.
