The Galaxy S8+ is powered by the Samsung’s exclusive 10nm octa-core 64-bit processor, which allows for the quicker launch of apps and more powerful performance. Samsung’s figures indicate that the battery life is longer thanks to the processor’s 20% reduction in power consumption. Importantly, compared to the previous generation of Exynos-powered Galaxy handsets, the S8+ boasts a 10% increase in CPU performance and a 21% GPU improvement. The S8+ comes equipped with 64GB of internal memory and is expandable by allowing for the option of up to 256GB of external memory to be fitted into the handset’s MicroSD slot, providing increased storage for your contacts, or photographs, or for high-quality video. The S8+ also gives users the option of fitting a second SIM card.
The new handset has also been engineered to provide a much-improved battery life, which is sure to be useful when out of the home or office. The 3000mAh battery within the Galaxy S8+ allows for a talk time of up to 20 hours and Samsung state that whilst the improved battery efficiency from the new-generation CPU should ensure improved battery life, the S8+ features the ability to easily fast-charge through the integrated Type C USB port. Impressively, users can now charge the battery wirelessly. The Galaxy S8+ also boasts improved download and data-sharing capabilities compared to previous models, as the handset is Gigabit LTE and Wi-Fi ready. The Wi-Fi available on the handset is also able to support Cat 16 1024-QAM, which means that according to Samsung’s figures, users can expect improvements of up to 20% in their download speeds, as compared to previous models.
The Galaxy S8+ is a smart and attractive handset and features a larger, bezel-free, 6.2 inch full-HD screen, thanks to its rounded-corner Infinity Display. The Infinity Display is the most distinctive feature of the handset and means that glass screen now takes up the entire front panel and is bordered by the handset’s thin aluminium frame. The handset features a 18.5:9 display, making the smartphone incredibly versatile and particularly suitable for browsing the internet, watching videos and gaming. For gaming, Samsung has integrated Vulkan technology to allow for smooth performance during graphics-intensive gaming.
The home button is embedded under the screen, using a sensitive pressure sensor, and the handset now features Gorilla Glass 5 which ensures that the smartphone is smart and durable and is able to resist drops and screen-cracks. Impressively, Samsung have ensured that the latest iteration of the IP68-rated Galaxy handset is both dust-resistant and fully water-resistant up to a depth of 1.5 metres, for up to half-an-hour, so accidental drops into water, or exposure to a heavy rain shower, won’t be an issue
Samsung’s latest handset comes equipped with the calibre of camera which you would expect in order to make the most of the generous Infinity Display and boasts both an 8MP front camera with auto-focus, multi-frame image processing and a F1.7 lens, which is ideal for taking selfies in any situation. The S8+ also incorporates an impressive 12MP, dual-pixel sensor, F1.7 lens rear camera capable of shooting 4K video and features a Pro mode which allows you to control multiple aspects including ISO, shutter speed and exposure.
The Galaxy S8+ also features a multitude of easy-to-use security features for phone unlocking, including facial recognition, fingerprint, passcode and iris scanning security. The handset also boasts a defence-grade secure folder for important files, which has the ability to restrict the access to those files to you alone.
One of the most exciting features incorporated within the Galaxy S8+ is the fully-integrated Bixby digital assistant, which allows the use of voice, text, or touch to provide searches, recommendations, document translations and more. For example, you can open an image of a chair on your handset and ask Bixby to tell you where you can buy one. Importantly, Bixby can learn from you, the more you use it.
