For those who are fans of the traditional feel of the Blackberry phone, the Classic will certainly not disappoint. Obviously, the most prominent feature is the old-school keyboard which had become so famous in the past. It is just important to note that there are other amenities which reflect the cutting-edge path that Blackberry has taken. Nonetheless, this model does indeed have some drawbacks which should be considered. Let us briefly review the Blackberry Classic to get a better understanding of its main features.
Touch Sensitive with a Twist
Obviously, Blackberry needed to incorporate a tactile screen alongside its raised keyboard. Note that the 3.5-inch screen itself is square and therefore geared more towards files and data displays than games. Still, a touch-sensitive tracking pad and four shortcut options (end, menu, back and call) will help to enhance the functionality of the screen.
Computing Power and Camera
It should only be expected that the Classic boasts a considerable amount of computing power. This is enabled through the use of a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor manufactured bu Qualcomm alongside two megabytes of RAM. On-board memory capacity is a considerable 16 megabytes. Note that a MicroSD card will increase this capacity to 128 gigabytes. So, a great deal of information such as files and photos can be accommodated. This robust processing power also provides a high screen resolution and the quick execution of many applications.
The Classic also boasts an auto-focus camera of eight megapixels. It can record videos in up to 1080p resolution and a built-in LED flash can be manual or automatic depending upon the lighting conditions. Note that the front camera is only two megapixels and a resolution of 720p is the highest available.
Ergonomics
Due to the built-in keyboard, it should come as no great surprise that the Classic is notably thicker and more bulky than the typical smartphone. It is 10.2 millimeters thick and weighs 117 grams. This width is more substantial than that of the iPhone 6 and yet the weights are more or less comparable. Still, this mass signifies that it is easy to hold and the chances of it slipping and falling are minimal. By no means is it a “clunky” or ugly unit and for those who enjoy a more durable feel, the Classic can be a welcome alternative.
Drawbacks
Many of the drawbacks of the Classic will primarily depend upon one’s tastes and his or her requirements. For those who are used to large touch screens, this model may not be appropriate. The 3.5-inch display is not as able to accommodate media as well as other phones. Additionally, its weight and thickness can present a slight problem. There are fewer apps available (at the present) than with other smartphones. Finally, many users have reported a rather erratic battery life.
So, it is clear to see that the Blackberry Classic offers a number of unique features as well as a few drawbacks. Still, anyone who enjoys the traditional appeal of the heavier phone alongside the very tactile nature of a raised keyboard are likely to enjoy this model. As there have been few bugs reported and with an ample amount of memory, the Classic is indeed a blast from the past with a few noticeable perks to enjoy.
