The Samsung Galaxy S6 – What To Expect

The newest smartphone from Samsung, the Galaxy S6 ‘Project Zero’, is expected to surface in the spring of this year. Rumours are rife in the lead up to the smartphone’s release as to what customers can expect in terms of specs.

In keeping with the releases of smartphones by its competitors, Samsung typically releases a major smartphone each year. In 2015, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is set to be unveiled on March 1st, a day before the Mobile World Congress begins in Barcelona. The time of the unveiling is expected to be 18:30 Central European Time.

Judging by previous prices for its Galaxy series, the Galaxy S6 smartphone will probably be priced just under £550. In the few months after its release the price of the S6 will be expected to fall significantly, and be less than £500 later in the year. Twelve months after its release the price is likely to be around the £400 mark.

Galaxy S6 Specs

While the Super AMOLED screen will stay in place the size of the S6’s screen is expected to be increased to around 5.5 inches. Resolution is also expected to be enhanced to Quad-HD 1440 by 2560 and 534ppi. This is a fairly safe prediction as Quad-HD had its introduction on Note 4.

Along with the Samsung Galaxy S6 there are likely to be new innovations with its sister smartphone, Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge. Expect a curved-edge screen for this release, which won’t be too dissimilar to Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge.

A Design Aimed At Silencing The Critics

The design of the Samsung Galaxy S6 will probably show signs of paying attention to critics of the S6’s predecessor, the S5. The Galaxy S6 will probably have a chassis that is a departure from the plastic of the S5, with half-metal and half-plastic seemingly a favoured option. Photo leaks also suggest that the S6 will bear a strong outward resemblance to the i-Phone 6, including from having similarly rounded sides to drilled speaker openings. However, other rumours indicate that Samsung will be opting for a metal unibody design. If the latter turns out to be the case, then it will mean that batteries won’t be removable.

What isn’t a secret are the Samsung Galaxy S6 cases, which can already be purchased. The design of the cases suggest that the S6’s dual-LED flash will be on the other side of the camera, while the headphone port will be situated in a different area compared to the S5.

Galaxy S6 Cameras

A 20Mp rear camera and 5Mp front camera are expected to feature on the Galaxy S6. Strong rumours indicate that it’ll be a surprise if this turns out not to be the case.

The Software

The association with Android seems set to continue in terms of software, with Android Lollipop expected to be utilised by the S6. Samsung are, though, in the process of creating Tizen products.
