Google To Create Smartphones With Built-in Face And Object Recognition

Google has recently collaborated with Movidius which is an Alphabet Inc. subsidiary and they already features picture-identification on its Photos app. The technology however needs users to upload pictures. Only then does the program search the pictures for objects as well as faces. That could be about to change.

The latest technology will make the calculations in the phone thus substantially cutting down on the processing requirements. This will bring the company one step closer to real-time face recognition as well as tracking objects and faces conveniently over a number of apps. It will be advantageous in many ways like empowering transactions by recognizing users, sign translations and much more.

According to Blaise Agüera y Arcas, head of company’s machine intelligence,

“By working with Movidius, we’re able to expand this technology beyond the data center and out into the real world, giving people the benefits of machine intelligence on their personal devices.”

On the other hand, Movidius Chief Executive, Remi El-Ouazzane states that handset employing this technology is a viable idea. He believes that such handsets will definitely be available in near future.

The American multinational Google had also worked with Movidius previously to on a Tango project. However, it is yet to be seen that how Google incorporates this technology in the smartphones.

The incorporation of machine learning and automation features in smartphones will also bring a few challenges in its wake. But for now, Google is focused on the integration of this technology in the smartphones.
